Texas Vet Land Program

The Texas Veterans Land Program can be used by eligible Texas veterans to purchase raw land in the State of Texas. The Texas Veterans Land Board purchases the land directly from the seller and then resells the land to you, the veteran, on a 30-year contract of sale. It takes approximately 120 days to close a loan, provided all necessary documentation is submitted timely and there are no unusual situations associated with the purchase.

The typical chronology of a Texas Vet Land Loan is as follows:

You select the property, which must be at least one acre.
You negotiate the selling price with the seller and inform the seller that financing will be obtained through the Texas Veterans Land Board Program.
You complete the Texas Vet Land Program application. Click here to go to the Texas Veterans Land Board forms page.
After completing the application, you and the seller prepare and submit to the VLB all of the required forms, documentation, appraisal, and contract fees due at the time of application.
When the terms of the contract are fulfilled, the VLB will issue a deed to you, the veteran.

The Texas Veterans Land Program is self-supportive, funded by bonds and the fees submitted by each veteran purchaser.

Like the Home Improvement Program, the Texas Vet Land Program is provided directly by the Texas Veterans Land Board and not through participating lenders; therefore it is recommended that you contact them directly at 1-800-252-VETS (8387).

Please note: You will not be able to do anything with the land, including building on it, until the Texas Vet land loan has been paid in full on the parcel of land that you intend to build on. Therefore, this program is NOT for buyers who are looking for a way to buy land to start building on immediately.
